This wine is made from 100% Orangetraube, a rare grape variety that has been an important part of our mixed vineyard since our winery was founded. In 1966 Karl Georg Zahel selected the variety and replanted a single-varietal vineyard. Two generations later, we are one of the last wineries still producing this grape variety.

Orangetraube is a white wine variety that was selected from wild varieties. It was selected around 1840 by Johann Philipp Bronner from wild vines near the Rhine between Rastatt and Speyer. The variety produces strong, low-acid wines reminiscent of orange blossoms. The variety is a relative of the new Goldburger variety.
